Getting Mesa’s goat

I love this idea.

The $10,000 contract with Arizona Herdsman Eco Goats, a local
company, to clear the rocky slopes of weeds by the water retention
ponds ends either in June or whenever the job is done, Satter said.

If not rooted out, the weeds can ultimately erode berms, earthen walls
that prevent runoff, or destabilize water retention ponds.

At first, 10 goats came onboard in January. Over time, that numbers
swelled to about 70, all of them nipping away at the task at hand.

Now can they come over to my place and trim my lawn?

Just thinkin’…

The conventional wisdom is that Specter’s defection to the Democrats is proof that the GOP needs to move to the center if it wants to have any success in 2010 and 2012.

Me, I agree with Jonathan Chait: It’s just proof that Specter is willing to do anything to get elected.

But if it is true that the GOP should move to the center to win, was Joe Lieberman’s defection from the Democrats in 2004 a signal to the Dems that they should move to the right?

And if so, why did the Democrats go on to win the Presidency in 2008 with the most liberal Senator in the U.S. Senate as their candidate, even though they had a very viable center-left candidate in Hillary Clinton ?

Maybe it’s not moving to the center that wins election after all…

Tuesday Music Blogging – Dire Straights

The last few minutes of Telegraph Road: Mark Knopfler playing one of the finest guitar solos in all of rock and roll.

And Pick Withers and Alan Clark are right there with him on drums and piano. It’s a just a joy to hear a band have so much FUN and yet play so darn well.

With friends like these,

… who needs enemas?

Jonathan Chait rips Arlen Specter a new one.

When a politician switches parties, it’s customary for the party he’s abandoned to denounce him as an unprincipled hack, and the party he’s joined to praise him as a brave convert who’s genuinely seen the light. But I think it’s pretty clear that Specter is an unprincipled hack. If his best odds of keeping his Senate seat lay in joining the Communist party, he’d probably do that.

Read the whole thing.

This just in…

Arlen Specter would rather switch than fight.

And how.

This just in…

Arlen Specter has switched to a Mac.

It’s kind of a… bummer.

For Mac users.

Seriously.

First, Al Gore, and now this.

Oh well, at least El Rushbo still has his Macs.
