Ed Morrissey has the reaction to Obama’s foolish decision to retain his ethically challenged VP search committeeman. In short, Obama could no more disown Jim Johnson than he could disown any of the other friends, mentors and advisers he has disowned.
Explaining his decision, the brilliant orator spake thusly: “Well, no, it becomes sort of a, um, I mean, this is a game that can be played — everybody, you know, who is tangentially related to our campaign, I think, is going to have a whole host of relationships — I would have to hire the vetter to vet the vetters. I mean, at some point, you know, we just asked people to do their assignments.”
Sheer eloquence. Just wait until he’s challenged on his horrid selection of noted terrorist-pardoner Eric Holder for the same committee.
My prediction: At 5:45 p.m. EDT Friday, Johnson will quietly step down from the campaign. Obama will issue the statement, “this isn’t the Jim Johnson I knew.”
